Henri & Marcelle Gaspoz Foundation
2002 Prize for the renovation of a house in Fully (Valais)
"The abandonment of village buildings and the present fashion for detached houses on the periphery leads to a dispersion of the agricultural landscape. In this context, any instance of quality development based on the re-use and enhancement of our building heritage should be heralded and high-lighted as an example.
The project that has been undertaken demonstrates that even small rural buildings can be adapted, provided that the renovation retains their fundamental quality and character.
The present example shows that adjoining buildings can be converted and adapted for a new purpose. Everything about it is real, simple, clear.
The result is highly effective, the sobriety of the means used remarkable, the purity of the spaces and their colours - pastel but present - requalify the interior dimensions. Moreover, features such as the depth of the windows and the vertical and horizontal geometry provide a discreet enrichment."
Bernard Attinger, Cantonal Architect, Canton of Valais.
Attributed for the first time in 1984, the annual Prize of the Henri & Marcelle Foundation rewards, in turn, people working in architecture, the humanities and the fine arts in the Canton of Valais. |
