This was a conversion of two adjoining buildings in a small hamlet surrounded by vineyards. Previously the property of a wine estate, they were simple, slanting and flimsy constructions that had been used as a place for eating and sleeping and for storage.
The new owners decided to convert the properties into a second home. While the exterior was left in situ, additional window space was created whose shape and positioning enabled the interior to be clearly defined.
To use the thickness of the walls to the best advantage, the windows were fitted flush on the outside. This made the façade look smoother and enhanced the building's appearance.
The entrance on the east wall leads into the kitchen/dining area and then opens on to a staircase. The living-room is one flight down while the bedroom and shower-room are one flight up. From there, a ladder leads to the mezzanine. |
