Competition for a day nursery, a school and a sports centre, Chermignon
3rd prize, distinction

Project 2005
Associates: François Meyer, Claude Fabrizzi, Joseph Cordonier

Programme: day nursery and welcoming centre for 30 schoolchildren, 4 leisure complexes, multipurpose room, bathroom and administrative facilities. Primary school: 9 classrooms, teachers’ room, archives and bathrooms. Multipurpose room: sports hall, foyer, stage, locker rooms and bathrooms.

The project evolves from the southeastern end of the site, as an extension of the natural fabric of the village, with due regard to achieving a sound development and economy of space.

The buildings connect to a central space that forms the heart of the complex and the school’s play area. The buildings designed as independent units fit into the existing landform and, because of their close proximity, ensure a spatial and statistical dependence between them.

Access is through the reception area leading to the central courtyard. It connects the school buildings and those of the day nursery. The present connecting roads, Diogne Lane and Grand Bisse Lane, are integrated and revitalised through this underpass link that connects them to the village.
