Competition: Military Training Centre for Armed Combat, Bure

Blueprint: 2004
Associate: François Meyer

Brief: Foyer, auditorium, offices, control centre, storage for soldiers' equipment, central warehouse, assembly hangar, workshops.

The site comprises barracks to the west, tank and maintenance hangars to the north-east and training grounds to the east and south. The specificity of the project is affirmed by its implantation in the centre of the site and the fact that it will provide a link to all the existing buildings.

The building will be a succession of longitudinal strata of varying depths and heights according to the needs and usage involved. Staff equipment is housed at the lower level and tank equipment at a higher level, forming a liaison between the reception area and the start of the drill area.

Because of the topography, one of the biggest obstacles has been the connection of the reception area – at the lower level of the barracks – with the higher level of the drill area, between the clean and the dirty areas. The logistics area is in the centre of the building, around a service courtyard, protected from dust and with its own access to the main access road.
